What inspired you to become involved in the bridal fashion industry?
Growing up the daughter of a fashion designer (Vinka Lucas), I naturally wanted to be like her. And I was certainly encouraged. I had my own little electric sewing machine, iron and ironing board, all at the ripe age of four! I pretty much grew up in the workroom and learnt about all the aspects involved.
What is your favourite wedding gown you’ve designed?
That would be impossible to answer as each gown has different attributes. Like children – no favourites! In reality, I design for clients; the gowns themselves have a job to do and that is to make each bride look incredible.
How would you describe your signature style?
Feminine and romantic.

What is the first thing you consider when you design a wedding gown?
For me it’s always the fabrics and lace that inspire. However, if I’m designing for a client,
I firstly have to consider her! I take into account what she likes, what is going to compliment and flatter her, what will suit the venue and, of course, the budget.
What are your trend predictions for bridal fashion?
We’re lucky that we get to see and buy laces that are on offer to some of the top bridal designers in the world, so we have a good idea what is happening trend-wise. Lace is massive in every way: embroidery, beaded, dimensional, ranging from delicate and floral to designed patterns with symmetry. The gowns themselves are light and whimsical, with more use of sheer tulles to show off the amazing laces. Silk dupion and satin will also make a comeback, again paired with the divine new laces.
What number one piece of advice would you give a bride searching for her dream gown?
It’s not just finding your dream gown, it’s about the journey getting there. Not all gowns are created equal, so do your homework. Find people to work with that you can trust and with whom you can share this very special time in your life.
