Amelia & Jamie
Amelia and Jamie met in England but wanted to make New Zealand home. They decided on a wedding in Queenstown to give their friends an excuse to come and see NZ, and planned an amazing two-week destination wedding for their guests. Amelia shares their story...
In the week leading up to our wedding we celebrated our hen and stag parties and gave our closest friends and family the chance to get to know one another while exploring Queenstown. By the wedding day everyone was a big group who all knew each other well and blended so beautifully.
The morning of our wedding was amazing - it's just so much fun getting ready with your best friends. The highlight was the drive to the venue where we cranked Shania Twain's 'Man, I feel like a woman', drank bubbles and sang loudly!
We didn’t have a theme for the wedding but wanted it to be simple and classy. I loved the champagne colour for the bridesmaid dresses, worn with simple white flower arrangements. I let the girls pick their own styles and how they wanted their hair, as I wanted them to feel comfortable on the day. My dress was very similar to my mum's wedding gown, with a lot of lace, but I also wanted something I could dance and feel relaxed in.
Jamie and I wrote our own vows for our garden ceremony. This was so special and came from the heart. My school friend is an opera singer and sang as I walked up the aisle and during the signing. Our pup Maddie stood beside us, looking beautiful in her pink bow!
While our guests played lawn games with drinks and nibbles, we flew in a helicopter to the top of Remarkables for some amazing photos after the ceremony. This gave us an opportunity to be together and reflect on the day. Jamie and his brother had not been in a helicopter before, so it was so cool that they got to enjoy that experience together. The view and moments up there with my sister and Jamie’s brother were so special.
Arriving back at the reception we enjoyed a delicious meal and speeches with a stunning backdrop, and entertained our guests with our first dance. It was the best day!
