Ashlee & Johann
When Ashlee and Johann envisioned their wedding they saw earthy, coastal vibes, minimalistic and calm decor, with dried florals and neutral tones… and lots of love! The couple celebrated their perfect day on a gorgeous November day on a family property. Ashlee tells us more…
Our wedding was initially planned for April 2020, however lockdown happened and we had to rethink our dream day. Johann and I love a challenge and that’s the attitude we had in planning our post-Covid wedding. Instead of celebrating our day at a venue, we retreated home and planned every detail around a beautiful clear marquee on family property. Although it made us sad to wait to say I do, we utilised the time to put our energy into the finer details and also decided to spread our focus and brought a rural section in the Waikato to build our dream family home on.
When the day arose, we both started our days looking at the ocean… I woke for sunrise with my bridal party and we both enjoyed our moments with friends and family getting ready to meet each other at the aisle.
My dress was beautifully detailed, matched with an ivory veil. My makeup was inspired by warm orange and brown sunset tones. Johann and his groomsman wore black on black suits with dried floral buttonholes.
We had a minimalist bamboo triangular archway, created by my dad from materials on the farm. White market umbrellas above rattan furniture and jute rugs welcomed guests, while dried palm, toe toe, bunny tail and amaranthus dispersed throughout the ceremony and reception areas.
Our wedding had an earthy energy and it was just perfect. It felt like the energy and aesthetic of the day reflected us as a couple and came together flawlessly.
