Penelope & Mikey

Penelope and Mikey’s wedding day had it all, from stylish tents and stunning florals, to a cool caravan bar, whisky station, four-legged bridesmaid and late-night dancing! Penelope shares the details from their special day…

Our February wedding in Waikite Valley, just south of Rotorua, on Mikey’s lakeside family farm. It was the most incredible day surrounded by our nearest and dearest.

We tried to make everything look effortless and ‘simple’, taking in the natural surroundings of the farm and lake then adding a little bit of glam. The majority of the wedding was DIY, from the archway made from the farm’s tree wood, to the wedding cake, the flower wall, the greenery foraged off the farm, all the signage, and our wedding guest book art. Thankfully, all the hard work paid off!

Our overall goal for the wedding day was for all our guests to walk away feeling 'love' – the love Mikey and I have for each other, but also the love we have for every single person in the room. We put a lot of effort into making our day so extremely special for us, but also our guests.

Mikey and I have been best friends since we were 15 years old, but only took the chance and risked our friendship to explore a relationship together three years ago whilst we were both living in London... our friends and family all said "about bloody time!"
